Hello Hello Brisbane Bears and all our friends from overseas who've been visting the site in recent days. The clean up situation is now in full swing and we hope that you've been able to assist friends, family or just anyone who needs a hand.
The good news is that a few of our members houses had lucky escapes but i'm sure we'll hear about a few that haven't been so lucky. Even if houses are ok, people like our webmaster Pete seem to be land locked, without power, low food supplies and with kids to keep amused so there are people still doing it tough. Its been a real stressful time as we continually check facebook updates to see how people are getting on. Some good news from Middle Park, were Gary Love's place just managed to avoid the water which if you've seen his facebook video just before the peak tide seems like a miracle.
I was on duty for Council, at the QE2 Evac centre last night and lots of people have lost everything. It's really humbling but most seem to putting on a brave face and are welcome of all that's being done. The Evac centre's have been overwhelmed by generosity of donations of food, clothes, bedding etc but they can't take anymore donations and they are fully staffed with Red Cross, Lifeline, Mission Australia and other trained volunteers.
The volunteering today has overwhelmed Council resources so I'd expect more muster points to be in operation from tomorrow but that's not confirmed yet. Again, please stay off the roads if you don't have to be out and about as good samaritans are clogging up flood affected suburbs.
Finally, to all those who haven't made a donation please do so wherever you are in the world.
